Icograda scholarship winner returns from Mousharaka.
DIA Graduate member Laura Plini was the recent recipient of an Icograda Scholarship to visit Mousharaka, the Icograda Design Week in Qatar during February and March 2009.
Laura, currently resident in Sydney, has travelled extensively overseas before winning the scholarship, and is developing her new business as a graphic, website and multimedia designer.
‘Mousharaka was a great opportunity to listen to speakers from different backgrounds and share their knowledge and passion for their work,’ said Laura.
‘We attended a number of workshops to work on a common project, with the results proving, as one of the speakers (Farid Esmaeil) said, that success is a collective idea.
‘Planning a project in a group allowed us to play different roles, and learn more about how designers work together.
‘The conference was a great inspiration and provided a deeper understanding of a completely different culture and a growing region, offering a bridge between the east and the west.
‘These events are fantastic opportunities for designers to become part of an international community, to learn about other cultures and find inspiration for our work.’
