SEMINAR 03 25 August 2010 MARK THOMSON – Design for planetary equity – understanding the true value of design. It is only when we understand the concept of planetary equity and balance that we will understand and reap the true value of design. Mark Thomson recently accepted the position of "Corporate Sustainability Principal" for the Schiavello Group of Companies. Schiavello, Australia's largest commercial workplace, Interior construction, Furniture Design and manufacturing organisation, also operates in Singapore, Tokyo and Dubai. Mark's passion for sustainability implementation in the Design and Construction Industry has recently led him to travel to Cuba, China, Portugal and Germany, investigating sustainability strategies and design knowledge to implement locally. His past architectural projects have won numerous awards for their sustainable design approach; however he is alarmed that the local design industry is missing the significance and scale of our current environmental challenges. As co-author of the 2006 London published book "the Environmental Brief-pathways to Green Design" ,he is convinced Design and Education are the solutions to improve our planet's ecological imbalances. Mark is a founding Faculty member of the Green Building Council of Australia and current President of the Australian Green Development Forum. "Designers can create "Positive Development" to offset human negative ecological impacts. It is only when we understand the concept of planetary equity and balance that we can understand and reap the true value of Design." www.schiavello.com/environment.htm Stay tuned for video link ANTHONY LLOYD– Can you hack it?
